Bahrajnský národní dopravce Gulf Air oznámil zahájení přímých letů do Moskvy od 28. října 2014. Letecká společnost bude provozovat čtyři týdenní lety na mezinárodní letiště Domodedovo, které se nachází 42 kilometrů jihovýchodně od centrální Moskvy a největší letiště ve městě podle osobní a nákladní dopravy.
Oznámení o nové trase Gulf Air přichází po nedávných startů do Sialkotu, Teheránu a Athén. Zastupující generální ředitel Maher Salman AlMusallam prohlásil, že vstup letecké společnosti do Ruska lety do Moskvy zdůrazňuje její strategii rozšíření sítě o klíčové globální destinace. Tato nová trasa má za cíl posílit obchodní, cestovní ruch a investiční příležitosti mezi Bahrajnem a Ruskem a letecká společnost očekává úspěch při zvýšení osobní dopravy mezi těmito dvěma zeměmi.
Letecká společnost navrhla své moskevské operace tak, aby regionálním cestujícím nabízely pohodlné spojení přes Bahrajn a zlepšily přístup pro cestující z GCC, indického subkontinentu a Asie.
Moskva, rychle rostoucí turistická destinace s památkami, jako je Rudé náměstí a Kreml, přitahuje ročně kolem tří milionů návštěvníků. Lety Gulf Air do Domodědova využijí letadlo Airbus A320-ER se 14 sedadly Falcon Gold a 96 sedadly Economy.
